Palazzo Grassi was designed by the Venetian architect Giorgio Massari in the eighteenth century commissioned by the family Grassi, middle-class family originally from Chioggia who had bought land overlooking the Grand Canal. After the death of family members Grassi, the palace became the property of several families that changed over the years several times the target: the lyric tenor Antonio Poggi, Stucky Swiss industrialist, entrepreneur Veneto Vittorio Cini etc.. to the Fiat family in 1983 decided to buy the Palazzo Grassi entrusted the renovation Milanese architect Gae Aulenti. Since then the Palazzo Grassi became one of the world's major presenting many successful exhibitions. After the death of the owner of Fiat, Gianni Agnelli, the family decided to sell the building that was purchased in 2005 by entrepreneur billionaire François Pinault to exhibit its extensive collection of works of art.
Thanks to a renovation that transformed the Palazzo Grassi in an ideal setting for the display of works of modern and contemporary art, the François Pinault Collection is one of the most important art collections in the world, boasting paintings, sculptures, videos and photographs belonging to the main artistic movements of the nineteenth and twentieth century as Minimalism, Pop Art and Arte Povera. In June 2009, after nearly 30 years of closure, François Pinault decided to restructure by Japanese architect Tadao Ando also the landmark of Venice, the Punta della Dogana, making it also the permanent seat of the François Pinault Foundation. At the reopening of the new contemporary art center, was presented the exhibition Mapping the Sudio through selected works reconstructes the path of each of their origin until its inclusion in the collection. Both seats of the François Pinault Foundation can be visited by purchasing a single ticket is valid for 3 days. The seats are open daily from 10 to 19, except Tuesdays and major holidays.

How to reach Grassi Palace from Hotel
Piazzale Rome is easily reachable in 15 minutes, thanks to Hotel transfer service (available on a scheduled basis and on request), or any public transport. The bus stop is only 200 m. and from the ticket (available at reception) is Eur 1.10.
Once in Piazzale Roma (or Tronchetto), Grassi Palace can be reached by vaporetto lines 1 (stop S. ANGELO) and 2 (stop S. SAMUELE). At the reception of the Hotel you can buy subscriptions that include service bus + boat only Eur 18.00 (valid for 24 hours)
