La Fenice Theatre was inaugurated in 1792; during the French dominion with Napoleon, La Fenice took the function of a state theatre and in 1828 was restored with an empire style. In December 1836, because of a gas fire, the theatre was destroyed by fire but was quickly rebuilt with a design provided by Tommaso and Giambattista Meduna. La Fenice rose from its ashes to open its doors in 1837.
The same wretchedness happened in 1996 when a terrible arson destroyed again the theatre temporarily closed for renovation.
After 7 long years, the theatre was rebuilt with a design provided by Aldo Rossi and re-opened to the public with a special concert conducted by Riccardo Muti. La Fenice theatre is still considered one of the famous theatres in world.
