Every year the Redentore festivity attracts a lot tourists from each part of the world, when starting from the sunset, thousand of typical Venetian boats decorated with coloured lights and balloons gather in St. Mark’s Basin waiting one of the most suggestive moment of the year.
The Redentore is the Venetians’ most treasured festivities.
Historically, it started to be celebrated in the 16th century when the Republic's senate decided to build a temple on the Giudecca island in honor of Christ the Redeemer to mark the end of the plague that had struck the city in 1576.
Every year, on the third Saturday of July, Venetians and tourists from all over the world wait midnight to admire the multicoloured fireworks show that takes place in St. Mark’s Basin.
