Cà dei CarraresiANCIENT BUILDING: HOUSE CA' DEI CARRARESI
History, Planned Exhibitions...

The name "Ca Carraresi" not derived as you think to the Da Carrara family because they use it not as the home in Treviso, but for the presence on the facade of that emblem affixed in medieval times to indicate that the '" Hospicium "was used as a forum for officials and soldiers of the noble family. Less well known is Casa Britton, bordering Ca Carraresi, rich in frescoes, purchased in 1936 by John Berton manager at Osteria Croce. From medieval texts about Treviso, in fact, comes note that Ca Carraresi at the late fourteenth century was actually called '' Osteria alla Croce ". The discovery of historical documents relating to the sale of the house finally settled that the structure appeared instead to offer a public service and hostel for travelers, in fact "Osteria alla Croce" was inside.
Between 1396 and 1397 were carried out a series of renovations while in 1400 as a result of a new license of the mayor of Treviso, was allowed to replace the old wooden pillars inside the House with other masonry and the arches were made open to make access free to all citizens.
Recently restored by the Foundation Cassamarca House of Carrara has become an important stage thanks to the international exhibitions, conferences, seminars and exhibitions are hosted each year. Inside the two houses, House of Britton and Cà Carrara, where you can still admire the different fragments of frescoes dating from the medieval period as the "Madonna and Child" of 1400.
